- CookMapper
- by John McLaughlin (Borric)
-
- Version info:
- 1.5c is mostly a colour upgrade.
- It also has a slightly better road laying algorithm.
-
- CookMapper is a random map making utility for the Macintosh
- network game Bolo. The options are fairly self explanatory but
- here is a brief description of each.
-
- Fragmentation:
- This is the most significant option of CookMapper. Fragmentation
- is a measure of the 'roughness' (fractal dimension) of the coast.
- I like a setting of about 70 or 80.
-
- Total Area:
- Generally I like about 1000 per player.
-
- Number of islands:
- Each island gets equal shares of the total area and forest.
-
- Number of bases:
- Number of pills:
- Limited, of course, to 16 by bolo.
-
- Island spacing:
- The distance between adjacent islands. A setting of 1 tends to
- make the gaps between islands a river. So if you choose a high
- fragmentation and lots of islands with spacing 1 you tend to get
- a single island with many rivers.
-
- Pillbox placement:
- Totally random:
- Anywhere on land that is not already occupied by a pill/base.
- Protect all bases:
- All bases are within range of at least one pillbox.
- Protect no bases:
- All bases are out of range of all pillboxes.
-
- % Forest:
- The percentage of land which is also forest.
- Clumped:
- The forest is placed such that it is a solid 'forest' of trees on
- each island.
- Note: This is not recommended for single island maps because some players may have
- bad access to the forest.
- Scattered:
- The forest is distributed randomly over all the grass squares.
-
- Roads:
- Add roads. Roads are placed to fill 5% of available land.
-
- Boats:
- Add boats randomly around the coast.
-
- Show map:
- This gives you the option to conceal the map from view during
- creation.
